Sun, fun and rhododendron

We have had a great week in Year 3, from start to finish.

On Monday, 3B visited Harlow Carr to learn about plants and how they reproduce. It was lovely and sunny, which was a massive shock to the class teacher as normally sales of umbrellas go up the week Mr Beevers is on a trip. 3M had an equally nice day when they visited the gardens on Thursday. Both classes had a superb time learning the various names of the parts of a flower then finding examples of them so that they could be made into a display card. The children also had time to enjoy the exciting adventure playground and eat their packed lunches. Thanks has to go to the parents, grandparents and carers of Madison, Florrie, Gabriella, Peter, Nathan, Olivia, Jakob, Jacob, Emily and Sophie for offering and assisting on the trip. Without help, our trips would be much more difficult to organise and complete successfully.

On Friday, the classes shared learning log work. The task was to write or video a story or play script based on our book, Varjak Paw. We had loads of wonderful examples come in and we hope you all had as much fun making the films and writing the stories and scripts as we had when looking at them. Our “Barry Norman” afternoon also included popcorn to give the cinema feel to the films and plays. Looking at other work is very important as this enables us to share good examples of ideas, writing and presentation so that everyone benefits and improves.

Friday was also our celebration day for the marriage of Harry and Meghan. Learning carried on as normal but with a nod towards the big day. As we have been learning about angles in Maths, we made sure that the points on the crowns we made were a perfect right angle before decorating them and wearing them for the royal picnic at lunchtime.

Below are a selection of photos from this week’s activities.

Special mentions this week go to Sonny, Jakob and Nathan for being great learners for some super example of writing, Esha who is a good citizen and Ethan for being the best he can be.

Have a great weekend watching the wedding, the FA cup or just the garden grow in the sun.

Mr Beevers and Miss Micklethwaite.
