Happy New Year
Friday 11th January | No comments yet
The new year has started well in Year 3. The children have come back to school after their break, keen and ready to learn. 3M have also welcomed Miss Burland to their class and have enjoyed showing her how hard they can work.
The topic this half term is Ancient Egypt. In History, we will look at how the civilisation grew, how ordinary Egyptians lived (and died), the pharaohs they served and the gods they worshiped. To help the children’s learning, we will hold an Egyptian day and visit the Leeds City Museum for a workshop. More details of these events will follow.
Our English focus of play scripts is also linked to the Egyptian topic. This week we have started reading and performing The Golden Goose. It is a story based around the families of two workers who are helping with the construction of the pharaoh’s tomb. This story helps to bring to life the people of the age plus involves mystery and suspense. Pictured below are some photos of 3M practicing their lines.
Over the next few weeks, the children will be acting out more excerpts from it. They will then use their imagination to write their own alternative ending.
Maths for the next couple of weeks will be revising the written methods that the children learned last half term. We will then move on to working with money and using mental skills to add and subtract amounts.
Below is a Jack Hartman video that the children have been using to learn their 8 times table.
We also use his videos as the children love to dance along as they are learning.
Special mentions this week go to Noah, Isaac, Imogen and Alfie. Well done for a great first week back.
Have a great weekend.
Mr Beevers and Miss Burland.
