A fantastic first week in Year 3!
Monday 9th September | No comments yet
We have had a fantastic start to Year 3. The children have impressed us with their maturity and attitude to learning.
In English, we have started to explore the book “Weslandia” by Paul Fleischman. We came across a lot of sophisticated vocabulary. The children suggested some great strategies to work out the meaning of words they didn’t know.
In Maths, the children have made an excellent start to our work on Place Value. By the end of the lesson, the children could confidently count in 10’s and 100’s and continue a number track counting in 100’s.
The school have invested in new chromebooks and although we had a tricky start with set up, the children logged on and completed some great work. We all look forward to using these more in our lessons.
In Science, 3C completed their first observational drawings of a tree in the school grounds. We discussed how the tree might change over the year and will repeat our observations in October. 3E began their work as rock detectives as part of our new Science topic (rocks and soils). We had a lot of fun looking at and comparing different rocks such as: marble, granite, sandstone and chalk. The children completed a detailed observational drawing of these.
Children will begin PE on Wednesday. PE options were sent home today. Children should come to school in their school PE hoodie and jogging bottoms on Wednesday. If your child has been allocated Bouldering as their PE option for this half term, The Depot require parents/guardians to complete an online permission form before the sessions start. Your child will not be allowed to participate in the sessions without this. Please type the address below into your search engine to access the form. If you need any help completing the form, please contact the school office.
Next week children will begin their Extreme Learning. They must read or complete a Maths activity at home for 10 minutes, five times a week. A parent or carer must then sign the reading record stating the date and activity and the child will receive a tick for that day. Spelling Shed, Times Table Rockstars and Mathletics are fantastic ways to complete your Extreme Learning.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Chambers and Miss Ellis.
