‘Twas the night before Christmas

This week in English, we have been focussing on developing a range of comprehension skills from making predictions and inferences to discussing the language choices made by the writer. All of our work centred around the poem ‘Twas the night before Christmas’ which showcases lots of high quality vocabulary and language techniques. The children will be looking at the use of similes used in the poem next week as they write their own descriptions of St Nicholas.

Maths

In Maths, we have been exploring the 8 times table and its links to the 2 and 4 times table. The children have had the opportunity to show off lots of their mathematical skills this week as they tackled some maths assessments. We were very impressed with what they have remembered and their resilience towards solving multistep problems. Homework this week is based upon the 8 times table. Hit the button is an excellent resource for building up confidence in times table recall. How many correct answers can you get this weekend?

PE

Miss Carter has been very impressed with the effort put into our SAQs sessions this half term. All of the children have worked on improving a range of skills including throwing and catching, controlling a ball with a hockey stick and running at speed. Our gymnasts performed some excellent symmetrical and asymmetrical balances with their partner on a variety of apparatus this week. Our netballers are becoming much more confident in the rules of the game, showing some great defence skills. In tchoukball, the children have shown great cooperation skills as they worked together to score lots of goals.

PSHE

Our focus for this half term has been on bullying and the impact this has on others. The children have shown great maturity in discussing a range of situations and what can be done to prevent bullying. This week’s MindMate lesson focussed on kindness. We had some excellent discussions around how unkind behaviours can impact others and how our feelings change when someone is unkind or kind to us.

Year 3 impressed us with their fantastic Makaton skills in our Christmas performance of ‘I’m dreaming of a white Christmas’ this week. We can’t wait for you to be able to watch the film next week, particularly as we looked super festive in our Christmas jumpers!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Ellis
