Good morning Year 3,
I hope you’ve had a restful weekend and are ready for another week of learning! Here’s your online learning for the next few days…

English
Our English work for the next couple of weeks will be based on the “Truth about trolls” Talk for writing booklet you received in your packs on Friday. A brief description of which pages to do each day will be included on Google Classroom. Please upload a picture of your work when you have completed it.

Monday- Listen to the reading extract on the link attached. Follow the text in your booklet while you are listening. Once you have listened to the extract, complete page 7 (What do the words mean?). This would link to Vocab Victor. Remember to try and read around the word and see if you can work out it’s meaning from the context. Some similar words have been put at the bottom of the page to help you too. If you’re really stuck you can look at an online dictionary.

Tuesday- Re-write the sentences on the attached google slide and underline the adjectives. Then, complete the adjective game and sentence of 3 game in your booklet (pages 8/9). Challenge! Can you use alliteration in your descriptions?

Please also remember to check your class’ google classroom for fluency tutor tasks.

Maths
Monday- Measure mass (2)- watch the video, complete the worksheet and upload a picture of your work when you’ve finished.
Tuesday- compare mass- watch the video, complete the worksheet and upload a picture of your work when you’ve finished.

Google meets

Monday, Wednesday and Friday: English 10am, Maths 11am.
Thursday: 3C games and catch up 11am. 3E story and catch up 2pm.

Please send us photos of any of the exciting things you do at home and we will share them on Friday.

Have a great week,
Miss Chambers, Miss Ellis and the Year 3 team.

Good morning Year 3,

We hope you have enjoyed this week of learning. I can’t believe it is nearly the Summer holidays! Keep up all the hard work for the last few weeks.

Here is your online learning for the next couple of days
Maths: I’ve set everybody an ” arithmetic” test on Mathletics. This is timed and tests your ability to answer questions quickly in your head. You can jot bits down if you need to but you should do most of the working out in your head. This is a skill that’s really important and one we need to practise! Good luck!

English: You should be finishing your story today. We would also like you to take the time to edit and improve your work. Remember to think about grammar, right choice words, improving sentences (can you use better vocabulary etc), punctuation and spelling. This will be your final story in Year 3 so please make sure it is the best it can be.

Google meets

English 10am.
Maths 11am

There will be no google meet for 3E today, instead Miss Ellis will organise one for next week and will let you know the timings via the blog and 3E google classroom.

Home learning packs
These will be available from 9-12 from the front desk of the junior building. Please do not try to collect from the junior hall this time as it has a ‘bubble’ of Y2 children in there!  Packs that aren’t collected will be delivered. There will also be a letter with some information about Year 4 in these packs.

Please also complete this survey https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/FFPSNewclasses if you haven’t done so already. This will help give your new class teacher more information about your child ready for next year.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Chambers, Miss Ellis and the Year 3 team

Hello 3E!

I’m really looking forward to being your teacher next year and wanted to send a blog with a bit more information about myself and what to expect in Year 4.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with all of you at some point this year either through PE or world book day activities so we already know a little bit about each other but here’s a photo of me and some things you might not know about me…

-I am a huge Disney fan (I’ve been to Disney World in Florida 20 times!)
– I like to go swimming and was going to swim a mile to raise money for charity before the Corona Virus.
-My favourite subjects are: French, Science and Music
– I don’t have any pets but I would love a pet cat
-My favourite food is pizza!

We are going to have lots of fun in Year 4. We have planned a lot of really exciting topics. We do lots of DT in Year four as well as some really fun history topics. We go on some very exciting out of school visits!

One of the best bits of Year 4 is that we all get to go swimming! I really hope they open the swimming pools soon so we can all practice. Once the pools open, swimming and PE will be on a Wednesday morning.

We have Maths and learning log homework just like in Year 3. We give homework out on Thursdays and collect it in on Wednesdays. Sometimes I will give you spellings to learn too.

When you arrive next year you will come in through the middle cloakroom and use the toilets there as well.

This will be our classroom next year

There will be a google meet on Monday 6th July where we can all get to know each other a little better, play some games and talk about anything that worries or excites you about next year.

If your surname is A-L, your meeting is at 4pm. If your surname is M-Z then your meeting is 4:30 but an email will be sent to your parents with the link and time. I hope to see as many of you as possible!

I hope you have a lovely holiday and we have the opportunity to enjoy some sunshine before a busy start back in September!

I look forward to seeing you Monday,

Miss Chambers

Welcome to Year 3!

Hello! I’m Miss Ellis and I will be one of the teachers in Year 3 next year. This will be my second year at Farsley Farfield and I cannot wait to teach you all! Here are some (hopefully interesting) facts about me…

  • My favourite subjects at school are English and art.
  • I love to travel to Italy. I have even climbed Mount Vesuvius, a place we will learn about during our topic on the Romans!
  • My favourite foods are strawberries, pizza and chocolate.
  • In my spare time I enjoy baking, reading and going to the cinema.
  • I enjoy running and usually go to the park run in Leeds every Saturday morning. Last year, I took part in the Abbey Dash which is a 10K run and raised lots of money for charity.
  • I am a Harry Potter fan and wish I could be a professor at Hogwarts!
  • I LOVE dachshunds, they’re sooooo cute! Hopefully one day I’ll have one of my own!

Hi. I’m Mr Beevers and will be the teacher in 3B. I have been a teacher in Years 2, 3 and, last year, in Year 4. I love Year 3 in particular though.

  • I have two children. The eldest is 10 and is moving into Year 6 at his school. My other son is moving to Year 3 in September, just like me!
  • My favourite subjects are Maths, DT and Science… and Geography… and History. In fact, I enjoy everything that is taught in Year 3.
  • I love to make and eat pizza but I used to work as a chef long before I became a teacher, so cook plenty of other things.
  • My favourite football team is Huddersfield Town and I watch them regularly. Disappointedly, my youngest son, who plays football, has decided that Mo Salah is the best player in the world, so I have also been looking out for Liverpool.
  • I enjoy running and cycling and am a good swimmer and have taken part in triathlons in the past, but not this year. Hopefully, we can all get fit again together.

Next year, we have lots of exciting topics for you to enjoy from what life was like in Ancient Egypt and what the Romans did for us to growing plants and investigating different forces. We will of course be covering lots of new units of work in Maths, some of which you may have already started in Year 2. We have lots of amazing books to explore in our guided reading and writing lessons such as Stone Age Boy, Leon and the Place Between and Escape from Pompeii. You will have lots of time to get creative in our art, DT and music lessons. Hopefully there will be lots of opportunities for special events and school trips.

Although many things will be similar to year 2, there will be some changes! The school day starts at 8:45am and finishes at 3:20pm. You will come into school using the Y3 doors at the top end of the junior playground. We only have one playtime in the morning but you will have chance to build dens, practise your climbing skills up the tree house and put your cricket, tennis and football skills to the test! We also complete the daily run so it is a good idea for you to come to school in trainers. You will have PE one afternoon a week and will come to school in your PE kit on this day.

We are looking forward to meeting you on our google meets next week! Links to these will be emailed to you. If you are in school, please give us a wave if you see us around. We can’t wait to meet you properly in September for a busy, fun year filled with lots of learning and exciting adventures!

Summer reading challenge

This year, the Summer Reading Challenge’s Silly Squad will celebrate funny books, happiness and laughter. Children taking part in the Challenge will join the Silly Squad, an adventurous team of animals who love to have a laugh and get stuck into all sorts of funny books!

The Summer Reading Challenge website is free to access and features games, quizzes and downloadable activities that incentivise and encourage children to take part in reading related activities. Although public library buildings are closed, libraries will continue to deliver the Challenge through virtual services and e-lending platforms.

We would like all children to access this challenge. It’s a fantastic way to keep your child reading over the Summer and they can choose a book which interests them! The challenge is running from the 5th June to mid September. The link to sign up is below.
